How do I know when it’s time to replace my door?

Nothing makes a homeowner feel insecure like a faulty door. You don’t have to wait until everyone notices that you need a door replacement. Here are some of the tips that will give an early indication that your door needs some replacement as soon as possible:

Changes in your door

If you notice any difficulty opening or closing the door, you don’t need any other sign for a door replacement. In such a case, you may think you’ve locked your door securely, but it’s actually on the verge of swinging wide open. Do you want to spend your day worrying if the front door popped open and your dog or cat is now roaming the street?

How long have you used the door?

On average, a door, especially the primary entry door, is efficient for a period of not more than 7 years; having opened and closed it around 1,500 times annually. Overusing the door renders it weaker each day. If your door is older than this, you may notice changes in how it works. For a wooden door, you may notice some warps or rots, you may notice rust on metallic doors.

Old designs

A door’s design ought to match your home design. The door is the first thing every visitor encounters before entering your home and first impressions matter.

Any drafts?

Over time, gaps may develop between your old door and the degrading frame. Gaps in the frames compromise the air-tightness of your home and can cause spikes in your energy bills through the summer and winter. In this case, repair work is a temporary solution.

Faulty or poorly working locks

If your locks are not working properly, the only security your door will provide is deterrence. Changing locks may not be fully effective since they will weaken the whole door system. A door replacement will ensure a good lock system and the safety of your house.
